Hi all! I want to thank everyone who’s reached out with well-wishers and prayers.
While we are still currently without power and water, all of us on the Walbacz homestead (including all of our animals) are safe and sound, and we retained no damage to our property.
I am super thankful for lots of things, and especially having much disaster prep in place on our homestead that have made these days without power, water, and the ability to travel easily much better than it could be (thank goodness for rain barrels and dry goods!). Husband and I have been assessing our needs for future disaster prep, as well.
We did lose power at my commercial kitchen, enough to lose a hefty amount of perishable ingredients and frozen baked goods, which I have been donating and distributing around town (and, let’s be honest, around my own house). We are hopeful that power and water will be restored within the coming weeks, but business operations (market sales, wholesale, and classes) are at a standstill until further notice.
But most importantly, I mentioned that we are extremely blessed, but so many others, so many families and businesses have been absolutely devastated by the destruction of Helene. To help us in the area, consider donating to aid local businesses and aid groups.
Keep your trips to Asheville and the surrounding areas for the future, not now – there is a ton of rebuilding and repair to do, and we need emergency services to get to us on the roads so we can get back to something resembling normal.
Until then, stay safe, be thankful for all you have, and happy homesteading. See you around soon 💚
